SUMMER WAR

Summer Wars (サマーウォーズ Samā Wōzu?) is a 2009 Japanese Animed ficthn film romance film directed by mamoru hosoda and written by Satoko Okudera from a story by Hosoda. The film was produced by Madhouse and released by Warner Bros. The film stars the voices of Ryunosuke Kamiki, Nanami Sakuraba, Mitsuki Tanimura and Sumiko Fuji. Set in a territory governed by a clan from Ueda the film's story focuses on Kenji Koiso, a timid eleventh-grade math genius who has been falsely implicated in the hacking of a virtual world. With the aid of twelfth-grade student Natsuki Shinohara's extensive family he must prevent the real and computer-simulated worlds from colliding.
After the critical and box office success of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Hosoda decided to direct the next feature, with the intention of making it widely acceptable to audiences. Hosoda conceived a story about a social network and a stranger's connection with a family. The film's development lasted three years due to the addition of characters in Natsuki's family and Ueda being chosen as the setting for the film, as part of the territory was being governed by the Sanada clan at one time. The project was first announced, without a title, at the 2008 Tokyo International Anime Fair and the first trailer of the film was released in April 2009. Audience interest was fueled primarily through word of mouth and Internet publicity. A manga adaptation of the film was written by Iqura Sugimoto and began its serialization in July 2009.
Summer Wars premiered on August 1, 2009, in Japan, grossing over US$1 million in its opening weekend in 127 theaters and ranking No. 7 at the box office. The film was well received by critics and the general audience and was financially successful, grossing over $18 million worldwide. It won several awards such as the 2010 Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year, the 2010 Japan Media Arts Festival's Animation Division Grand Prize, the Anaheim International Film Festival's Audience Award for Best Animated Feature as well as being nominated for the 2009 Golden Leopard award at the Locarno International Film Festival.
